New Device Allows Texting, Emailing, Calling All Hands Free

Reported by: Jennifer Beale

It may be against the law to text while driving but that doesn't mean you cannot send a text at all. "A lot of people like to do it while they are in commute and it's going to be very important for them to still keep that up. They may not be able to do it as frequent and as fast but still they don't like to not be in contact." says Kevin O'Neil of Extreme Audio.

Extreme Audio and One Stop Wireless, both located on Abercorn Street, are the first stores in our area to carry a new product called Got2Be wireless. It's installed in about an hour and allows you to stay connected without ever using your hands.

Here is how it works. When you first get the device you pair it up with your phone just like you would any other Bluetooth. Then you hit the button on the small control panel installed in your car. You then prompt it to call the Got2Be Wireless call center. That is where you use voice commands to send texts, send emails, check your calendar, update Twitter and update Facebook. After that first button punch, the rest is all done solely with your voice.

For texts, emails and social networking sites the device translates what you say into text. "Great thing about the Got2Be Wireless piece is that it recognizes when you say, hey, how are you doing exclamation point. It also recognizes when its a question and puts a question mark. It breaks it down very well, pretty much almost as if someone would think you were actually texting while your driving," says O'Neil.

But that's not all this gadget does. Need to send a email or have your emails read to you? The process is just about the same. Updating your Facebook and even Twitter are as easy as speaking what you want to say and voice calls can be made with both hands on the wheel. With bans on texting and the increase in accidents related to cell phones, devices like Got2Be wireless are likely the wave of the future. This one costs $199 installed. "With that price you get a year of service free. Then they will charge you $49.95 for the following year," adds O'Neil. Most we spoke with say that's a small price to pay to protect your life and the lives of others on the road.
